Do I dig up mammoth elephant ear bulbs for winter or can they stay in

I live here in Texas but I plant my big elephant ears in pots and bring into houdey. I enjoy their looks all winter and take outside in spring. They never loose their large leaves. I have never had any luck raising them in ground where I have black clay soil.

It depends on where you live. If your ground freezes you need to dig them up. They are tropical plants and can't handle frost. If you dig them up, just put them in a paper bag in a cool spot until after the last spring frost. They love compost to grow their biggest!

I live in the Upstate of South Carolina and leave them in the ground year around. They come back every year bigger than the year before. I just thinned them out this year and gave some to my neighbors.
