they will tolerant partial shade,however it will be in your best interest to plant them in in pots
Once started they almost become a weed. I still like the smell when i walk through them.
They do like sun, but will do okay with some shade. Do be careful as they can be invasive.

Full sun best, will grow in shade. Plant in pots which you can plunge into the soil--they can be very invasive. Lost mine this year-
They will tolerate full sun, may burn depending how hot your summers are. Beautiful with afternoon shade. Love water. Do great by a drippy faucet ;)
