It's not a useful tree. I would get rid of it and plant something beautiful in it's place.Dogwood, magnolia, or cherry. Good luck.

    • Sandy Harmon Sandy Harmon on Jul 16, 2016 you agree it's an Alder? When I googled it, the leaves didn't look the same.

Hang on Sandy, Help is underway I asked my 'garden group' but are you sure it is a tree? I know the leaves but think rather it is a plant as in not developing a trunk

This is a Callery Pear, the one most commonly planted is Bradford C. P. Developed by USDA I'm embarrassed to say (because that's who I worked for) as a flowering (but sterile) tree that would get as high as a telephone pole and have no pest problems. Well, it does get taller, it does produce fruit, it is invasive and interbreeds with our native common pear. Worst of all, the branches are too close together on the main trunk when mature, so that it breaks up in storms really bad. I would say don't plant it, but if you want it, don't put it near your car or house. Plant native trees instead. By the way, all trees are plants. It doesn't have a trunk yet because it's young.

It is what we call it in Denmark a STUEBIRK - a diningroombirch, and we use it indoors.
