Cone flowers are known as Echinacea. After first frost when all of the Echinacea stems and heads are dry and have blackened (and using garden gloves to protect your hands) cut stems 6-12 inches below the head and place upside down in a paper bag. Then, all you have to do is gently shake seeds from their heads.
I used to cut bunches of flowers, wrap the stems in string and hang from the garage rafters, then get a small paper bag to cover the flower heads, and clip onto the stem with a clothes pin.
Hello. I cut the flower head off and put them in a paper bag to dry out. Then I either store them in the garage or basement for the following year to plant.
