I buy sweet potatoes and wash them good with dawn dish detergent and warm water to remove any chemicals. I then put them in a dark place with just a small amount of light at the top of them. This encourages new sprouts to grow. when the sprouts are about 4 inches high I cut the sweet potato in sections where each sprout is growing then just plant them in the ground with about an inch of the sprout covered. I planted about 20 of them about 2 weeks ago and my sprouts are now vines that are approx 20 to 30 inches high.
