I do not 'replace' the soil but add good compost every spring, the plants love it. Anything in pots gets replaced.

My family's farm is over 100 years old. Other than amending the dirt, it's never been completely removed and the farm has been in continual production for all those years.

I do not replace the soil at all, but I do add compost and other ingredients to keep it healthy.

Don't replace you just add things in to 'amend' every year. In my small gardens, I add some peat moss, manure and a bag of top soil every year. I have clay soil, so I am always battling that.
