Perennials go dormant in the winter
Hopefully you have purchased perennials that are appropriate for your temperature zone. If you have, no need to do anything special! Just leave them in the ground and they will return again in the spring. I deliberately don't cut them down or remove any twigs/branches/leaves in the fall in order to differentiate from the weeds in the spring (I've 'weeded' out more plants accidentally than I care to mention).
Perennial means they live from year to year. If the perennials you are speaking about are hardy for your zone then there's nothing you need to do usually. Some perennials need cut back and some do not. I usually don't cut anything back until the spring.
Depending on your climate zone, if you are concerned about extreme cold in the winter you may want to add additional mulch around them. I also do not trim until spring because I like to leave cover for birds during the winter.
