What did we do wrong? Our poinsettia plants died!

On a Home and Family Talk show last winter, they said to keep your poinsettia looking great they said spray it w/hair spray. We did and it killed it. What did we do wrong?

    Maybe they were talking about dried flowers? A great way to preserve dry flowers is with hairspray, but it might be harmful to live plants

    Nothing should every touch poinsettia leaves including water.

    Hair spray has alcohol in it..that would kill any live plant.

    Hair spray will keep a dried plant looking nice.

    For a Poinsettia..keep in indirect light and water when needed...do not water the leaves.

    In my 56 yrs I have never been able to keep a poinsettia alive! I purchased a fairly expensive silk one, and viola, I have a beautiful plant year after year without committing herbicide on a yearly basis.
