I live in Charleston, SC. My roses are still blooming. When should I cut them back for the winter and how short should I go? Thanks

Roses should be pruned in late winter when they are dormant

If you lived in an area that gets frost, if these are tea roses cut back to 2.5 - 3 foot.

We take them down to about 9 inches.

We actually did ours last week and we are in north central Texas.

Since you live in the south in beautiful Charleston (I lived there with my navy husband for 4 years), with mild winters - you can leave them alone and let them bloom as much as they want. Enjoy them!

Cindy, I may just do that, it is the easiest approach. Thanks

i assume you have knock off roses. Don’t cut them now as you will encourage new tender growth which will be frozen soon. Wait until mid to end of Feb. ( not much later please). Cut them to within a foot of the ground and fertilize. It won’t be a week or two and you will see them greening out and growing. Good luck.
