Plant them in the ground and let them die back naturally.Next spring when the are half out of the ground ,cut them down, this will insure proper growth and flowering time
I cut mine back in pots and put them in the garage over the winter, then bring them back out in the spring and they come back to life.
Cut back the foliage down to about 5-6 inches and put them in the ground. They will die down but should come back in the spring. Then if you want them to bush and not be leggy...falling over on the ground...use your scissors and cut them back to about 6" tall until July 4 (this is the time in my area...Atlanta).
It is hard to cut off buds, but you have to do it if you want pretty plants that stand up!
Can I do the same thing as you do for winter here in Florida..?
Just use your clippers and then you might cover them with pine straw. They are not hard to grow
