Silver Falls (Dichondra) - how to preserve it for next year?

I have Silver Falls outside in plant pots during summer time. How to preserve them for next year (live in very cold climate)? Shall I cut them before winter or in spring?
I purchased two hanging baskets at farmers market, growth more than three foot long. They did well outdoors this summer. In early September, before the frost, I brought them in. They were starting to look dry then, and the leaves are much drier now, despite watering. Should I cut them back and/or repot them? I've read this thread, comments and links, but it's unclear.
