Sandra, I would go to my closest nursery and see what they are selling -They only stock what thrives in your region.
Let them know where you will be putting them and the full sun they will get. Local nursery's will sell you or at least tell you what you should plant in your pots to get the look you want. Big box stores may know a lot about gardening, but may not always suggest the right thing for you. You don't need to buy it from them, but I would trust a nursery for advice above the big box stores.
