What can i plant in my retaining wall?

I live in eastern Oregon, I built a retaining wall on the back side of my shop. It gets very hot (up to 110° sun) during the day in the summer. I first wanted to plant my vegetables there but I'm thinking now it doesn't get enough shade. What plants can be planted? I'd like tall n short.

Thank you.

  • Sunflowers will do well, replant in 2 week intervals for continual blooms. I grow a lot of black oil sunflowers and a few others.

Geraniums will do well, so will roses. Where I live vinca is an annual plant, not a vine, I have tons of them, once established love the sun! One of the few flowering plants that thrive with minimum maintenance in blazing sun.

Hi Renata! Your question got cut off a bit, but my suggestion is to plant some different varieties of sedum. They have fairly shallow roots so won't interfere with the constructed wall and they are pretty tolerant of wide temperature changes. They are low growing and spread quite readily so eventually they'll cover the area where you place soil. A variety of colors, too!
