I buy the Miracle Grow vegetable and flower soil at Lowe's. It will feed your plants for months.

  • Miracle Gro products are always a go to, but check your nurseries, they may have something local that is better!

For the past 2 yrs I have been mixing my own potting mix. Janet p suggested this mix.....equal parts peat perlite top soil and compost. I add a continuous release fertilizer to blend in, or top dress the pot once planted. My flowers like it....the tomatoes too....but they need snack of more instant food as they set blooms for the fruit.

Potting soil. It is lighter and won't clump. Also check into using the gel filling from cheap diapers. Helps with moisture retention.

miracle grow is fine.....but expensive for doing a large pot garden. pine/ cedar trees on my property- can't even dig a hole deep enough to bury a gold fish. i've got 24 tomatoes potted up in 5 gal. containers, have more to pot up. then there are the peppers, cukes, egg plant.....

as for diapers for the gel....i did a cost analyzes- just get the gel crystals from amazon.
