What zone are you in?
Please add your planting zone to your question. They prefer rich moist soil and prefer partial shade.
Sounds like you are in zone 5 to 6, kind of a short growing season. You should be safe to plant them mid May.
Your growing zone is 5b to 6b, so plant them after the risk of frost is past.

Elephant ears are planted in spring after any danger of frost has passed. The tubers will not grow until the soil is warm, so don't plant them until the soil temperature is at least 65ºF.
Remember they are dangerous for kids.
