My knockout rose bushes are getting so lanky and big that I'd like to cut them back. When should I trim them?
In the early spring before the new growth emerges or in the fall when they grow dormant.Feeding should be done in the spring.
Agree with Janet, prune in early spring (February was my family rule!) no lower than 12 inches. Fertilize in the spring and throughout the summer according to directions. I like Bayer as it also has ingredients that help prevent black spot and mold.
Hard prune in the Spring, or Fall, deadhead spent blooms throughout the season, cutting back several inches. This will promote new growth, and flowers. Feed every 2 months, or as directed on the brand of fertilizer you have. Also roses like Epsom salts.
I just bought two of the hangers in a dollar store today. I have been using them for a very long time. It's great for necklaces too.
He cuts them back in the fall & rarely fertilize.
Thank you everyone great advice!
