early fall.

Best time is in the spring when the plant is just coming out of the ground and all dangers of frost has passed

  I divide in the spring so plants have a chance to get re-established before next winter . Before they leaf out is best , just as new growth is starting to show . Very easy to divide and good for the plants vigor

Typically done in the fall, but my friends have also had great success in the spring too, once all chances of frost have passed.
