When can I trim these blue spruce bushes?

Darlene Littleton on May 29, 2015I rather like them! And if that's all the bigger they'll get I'd leave them as is. I love those kinds of shrubs in the landscaping - always green and no maintenance.Helpful Reply

Louis Lieberman on May 29, 2015generally trees can be trimmed all year but it's best if done at the end of winter or the very early spring before the sap starts flowingHelpful Reply

Sonia Burrows on May 29, 2015Spruce trees are not meant to be pruned. It will distort their look and it may force them to start growing upward if you prune the lateral growth. I agree with Darlene. Once they fill in I think you may actually like the results.Helpful Reply

Marla Scarcliff on May 29, 2015i'd be more worried about that grass in the center there. If its what I think it is, it will spread quickly and probably choke out the evergreens. I love the spruce, it hides a lot of sins.Helpful Reply

MaryAnn B on May 30, 2015I like them too, they look nice. I would suggest that whenever they put on their new growth just snap them off. that will keep it more subdued.Helpful Reply

Sue c. on May 30, 2015I Think those are called "birds nest" spruce. They are extremely slow growers. Snapping off the bright green new growth each spring will contain growth.Helpful Reply
