It would be a lot of things causing yellow leaves. It could be over or under watering, not enough light, needs fertilizer, or got too much, root bound, it is hard to tell. If you think you are overwatering or underwatering, get a moisture meter that will tell you what the moisture level is throughout the different levels of the pot. Check on the water needs of your different plants by researching the plants. The stick that comes with the plants isn't always right. I have gotten plants that the store and the stick says they like a lot of light and moisture, but in researching them before/after purchasing them say they like to dry out between watering's and a lower level of light. I like gardeningknowhow.com and thespruce.com for helpful advise. I hope this can help you figure out what is happening to your house plants. Remember that winter furnace heat is really dry.

A lot of times that means they are being over watered. What kind of plant do you have? We would be able to better suggest things that might help if we have more info.

Different plants need more or less water....my pothos need more water than my Christmas Cactus and my maidenhair ferns need watered every other day. My pothos will get yellow leaves if I give them too much water. And the amount of light your plants get determines how much water they need. I found my houseplants need more water in the winter time when the furnace is on...lots of factors.
