The non-blooming has happened a few times over the years, to my Zone 5 Nikko Blue hydrangeas. It was due to a very late freeze at the end of winter, not anything I had done. This year I'm dealing with the loss of a large shade tree that protected the six hydrangea bushes from afternoon sun. Extra watering has helped so far.
