Turn the soil over, rake out the dead debris, apply a few inches of top soil, lime, grass seed for your area, starter fertilizer, top with peat moss and keep moist until germinated

    Hi Sandra :)

If by chance you had vermiculite laid before your pool went up, you'll need to remove it all or the grass won't grow. Once you've raked up everything in the area, do like Janet said and turn over the existing soil while adding fresh top soil in with it so it's more nourished. You can also try this product as it works beautifully!

We took out an above ground pool, and believe me, it was not easy to get grass to grow. Our pool, which also has a deck around it, had sand under it, so we had to remove that. We tilled up the dirt and remainder of sand, brought in some good top soil, and planted grass seed. Covered it with hay and watered it dailey. We still have to use weed granules several times during the summer months.

  • You may need to remove some of the sand. Till the soil and amend with some new soil before planting.

Most likely you have a sand base from the removed pool, grass does not grow too well in sandy soil. You'll have to remove a good amount of the sand, perhaps you can use it elsewhere. Add soil, then find grass that will grow well and hopefully match the rest of the lawn.

Remember if all else fails you can always make a planting bed or put in a Tree or make a garden feature there.
