Try putting a little top soil on the spots and then seeding. Put seed in fridge overnight and it should germinate quicker.
Fix what killed them first.

if your lawn had bald spots caused by Brown Spot just rake up dead area and it will regrow;rake up soil to loosen put down grass seed water well keep moist til it's about 2-3"s long then mow;is it bald because it did not get watered evenly sprinklers did not reach that area? just water it more it should come back do you know why you are getting bald spots in yard???
Baby them. Seed with straw over it to keep the birds from eating the seed. Fertilize & feed carefully.
I use a grass rake to loosen top of ground, sprinkle on some potting soil, toss on some grass seed then cover with more top soil.
