As long as you add garden fertilizer to the soil and do a soil ph level test every few years, you shouldn’t have any problem. But if you have a garden the size of a city lot, with vegetables planted in the area each year, then you do need to rotate your crops, such as planting corn and potatoes in a different quadrant each year. Letting your fields lie fallow every seven years comes from huge crops like cotton and wheat which deplete the fields of certain minerals which need time to renew themselves. ☺️

Different vegetables use up different nutrients from the soil so it's a good idea to rotate them to allow the soil to replenish itself

No, not true. Rotate your crops so that the same thing is not planted in the same spot every year. Plant a cover crop or green manure crop such as a cover after your vegetables are finished to over winter and turn it under in the spring to add nutrients in the soil. Start a compost pile now and add compost in the spring.
