You want to plant at least a third or more of the plant in the soil.
You can plant about 1/3rd of the trunk. Pinch back all branching to the trunk up to the point you want to plant it to. Ex would be 12" tall plant from top of pot to top of plant, trim off branches from top of pot to about 4" high. The area that you are planting will develop feeding roots to ensure more nutrient uptake. Remember, they need rich soil and lots of water and a Hot sunny place!
