Use three board the height and width of the pipe to wall, 4 if you want it permanent. Make the 3 in a U shape (one in front two on sides). attach the bottoms with L brackets to the baseboard so it won't topple. If you are using one behind the pipe in a shape of a box not necessary. Using 3 allows access to the pipe if for any reason you need to access it.
Attach shelving to the front or all sides to display collectibles. Or you can just leave it as a pillar stained or painted. You could also hang artwork or pictures on it.
I painted my kitchen drain pipe running along my basement wall the same color as the wall. You hardly notice it. No matter what the pipe is made of, you can clean it then paint it. I used the same paint as the wall on PVC pipes. The more expensive and time consuming method would be to box it in and create a soffit.
You could put a screen up in front of it, but that would take up room. I would do as Seth said and paint it the same color as the wall.
The easiest way is to paint it the same color. If you want to get more involved, box it in with sheetrock and then paint it to match.
Just paint it the same color as the wall and it will be practically unnoticeable to everyone...but you!
You could box it in. If you want to decorate it, you can turn into part of a mural and make it a tree. Cover with contact paper. Guess some of it will depend on what you are using the room for and how you want to decorate it.
Or you could wrap it with something like this:

I painted one the same color as the wall and it almost disappears. It's the easiest and least expensive option.
You can paint it same color as the wall is the easiest. Wrap it with rope and hang pictures on it. Build a three sides vertical "beam" to cover it. Stain or paint it. Place a hand made room divider in front of it.

Paint it the same color as the wall. I had some wires running behind my tv and by painting them they are barely visible.
I personally recommend to box it in or just paint it the same color as the wall.
It might depend on how the wall and pipe are currently finished. I know this might sound backward but I find highlighting awkward elements in a room, working with them instead of against them, tends to make them recede and not stand out. Alternately, maybe you can box in the pipe and create a wall bump-out.
