This is what I did for around $50: https://www.unexpectedelegance.com/wall-texture-for-less-than-50/
Typically paint is the go-to and step it up with a faux sponge roller cover and some painters tape and paint something to coordinate with the first step:
Re-cover the chairs with something fun and scrub-able. Nylon, or vinyl or poly work well. Cotton & polyolefins do not.
Simply unscrew the backs, stretch the fabric over & around the existing and then staple all the way around.
The paint colors should be taken from the new upholstery fabric, and avoid lots of contrast.
A very nice light fixture can be had for $40, on Craigslist or FB Marketplace. Typically pendants take a “holder” helper, to install it, if they’re used, as they’re already assembled and heavy.
Linda....Can you send a picture please?
Are you doing furniture or walls/floor? Hit Habitat Restore/Salvation Army/Goodwill for furniture. I agree with paint being the cheapest. I love some of the board and batten that Hometalkers have done. Home Depot has "get rid of it" material racks - odd shaped wood/plastic/damaged. you may be inspired there with ideas.
Thank you for your suggestions.
Hi Linda, paint is an expensive way to update almost anything. We also have a teeny, tiny dining room which we hardly ever use so I decided to convert the space and hung our chairs and a small table on the wall.
Paint is the cheapest answer.
Rearrange the furniture.
Without knowing what the area looks like you could add or refresh the artwork, mirrors or storage type furniture you are using.
