Contact paper is really thin plastic.
The epoxy won’t want to bond to it.
You might be able to scuff it up with sand paper & degrease it with alcohol and put a binding primer on it. I’m not sure though.
Epoxy paint will telescope every contact paper seam and gouges.
For $30-$40 for a 4’x8’ sheet of Formica, I would borrow a router, buy a laminate bit, buy the laminate adhesive and laminate it.
That will last you another 15-20 years if it’s done correctly.
I agree. Need to replace or remove all contact paper and residue to apply an epoxy paint finish made for countertops sold at Home Depot.
I think it would best to remove the contact paper and start with a clean slate.
If you mean pouring epoxy resin then there would be no problem at all. A lot of model builders especially model train enthusiasts use epoxy resin to make lakes, rivers, waterfalls, ice over paper, contact paper and painted surfaces.
Hi Belinda, you will need to peel or sand off the co0ntact paper or it will make a mess of you epoxy. That being said, if is it really stuck on goo and smooth you may be able to, here is a link to help you out. http://www.impatientlycrafty.com/2012/10/04/laminate-counter-makeover-for-28-with-epoxy-contact-paper-yes-i-really-just-said-that/#:~:text=Step%204%3A%20pour%2Fbrush%2F,nice%20covered%20coat%20looks%20GREAT!
