As the direction in lightening is LED, definitely replace it with either fixtures that have integrated LED lights built into them, or ones that takes screw-in LED lightbulbs. LED lights do not give off heat, and they take a fraction of the energy compared with incandescent, and halogen.
At a higher price point is to have an electrician install the new style of shallow ceiling LED lights (used to be called pot lights).
In a kitchen, for maximum coverage and versatility, there should be three types of lighting- task, overall, and ambient.
I am doing an LED light box in my kitchen. Something like this . . . Was around $100 and the one I bought says 4 foot Lithonia Lineaire LED - can't find on Home Depot site - naturally.

The size, shape and placing of appliances and windows will give you a good way to determine what needs to be lit. Next, you will need to know the source(s) of electricity for your lighting. If there was only one outlet for the entire track, you may need an electrician if you want more than one area lit. If that isn't possible, you may need to research a long, rectagonal type of light that used to be only fluorescent bulb-types, but are now able to handle a number of bulbs. Depending on your budget and how bright you want your kitchen, you'll need to figure that stuff out. Have a blast!
Hello Kelly! When replacing track lighting in the kitchen, it is important to be sure to consider what will fit in the openings left by the track lighting. Click on the link below to read about those considerations :

You should have task lighting, ambient lighting, & recessed lighting.
Most are switching to LEDs.... I like the pendant lights for task areas, under cabinet lights, and interesting ceiling fixtures....
