How can I change the fireplace tile surround?
I currently have a fireplace that has a ceramic tile surround. These tiles (12 inch) are the same as the flooring (20 inch), so the fireplace just gets lost. Can I go over the current tile with a different tile, possibly marble? I wouldn't know how to tear out the old, but I think I could just put new on top of it. Hep!

I have ceramic tile on my den fireplace too and it was a forest green color that I hated....so I painted it a light cream color...yes you can do this ...first I cleaned up all the tiles then I used Kilz as a basecoat to get the paint to adhere to the tile surface....then I used waterbased paint to cover it ...two coats...it came out beautifully and have had no problems with it at all ... has been in place for quite a few years and looks like cream color tiles...paint the grout and every thing as one and it will be easy and inexpensive....
Yes, a good tile installer can do that
Unless yo use a stick on tile I don't think regular tile glue will adhere to the existing tile. I would ask a tile store if any new products are available.
Would changing the color help? There are plenty of paints that you could use on the tile. Good luck.
I would suggest painting! Use a paint rated for heat and have at it! If not it’s most likely a complete tear out.
