How do I get the paint off of a fireplace?

Painted fireplace has to go! Should I try to resurface it, paint over it or what?

It all depends what what final result you are looking for. Looking for original brick, you can strip or sandblast. You can resurface for a smooth finish or stucco type finish. You can paint for a painted finish or a mottled brick look. All kinds of options and possibilities.
