Hi Tina: I just couldn't make heads nor tails of this picture until I enlarged it and found that it's sideways:) You can always paint it to make it look better. It looks just like mine, only mine is brass. Good luck.

    You paint it.

You can paint it with special high temperature paint. But that won’t help if the glass is what’s bothering you. :)

There is a cleaner called Fireplace Glass & Hearth Cleaner - clever name, huh? - you spray it on & wipe it clean, like using Windex. The instructions say to clean it off with paper towels but the corners on the inside of mine are very sharp & will tear off pieces of paper towel, & skin, so be careful.

I just unscrewed the back and removed mine. After cleaning the firebox, (I painted the firebox with high heat black paint) I love the open look. You can put some logs or candles inside or flowers or whatever goes with your decor.

Maybe call around to fire place/ wood stove dealers to see if the have a product to clean the glass before you paint the outside.

Hi. I cleaned my glass with rubbing alcohol and a razor blade in some areas and then used metallic oiled bronze on the outside. That was 5 years ago and it still looks great. And i use mine quite often even here in planting zone 9. It just takes the chill off during our "winters".
