What kind of fireproof sealer can I use on a real stone hearth?

by Andrea
My fireplace has a hearth about 18' wide with a natural stone top. It attracts dust like a magnet and constantly looks dirty. The stone is like a limestone with silver highlights when clean.

The type of stone does determine the type of sealant. A water-based isn't going to last as long as silicone based sealant. However, it depends on what you are looking for as far as the look of the stone. There are some sealants that soak into the stone and have more of a flat finish, while some penetrate better and leave a more gloss surface. I prefer 511 impregnator by Miracle Sealants. There are different types, so you have to find the one that is for high heat. You should be able to purchase it on Amazon or at Home Depot.
    Hope this helps,

if you put some end dust on a rag and wipe it with that when you dust,
it works fine and eventually builds up a thin layer and is easier to dust.
we've done this for years and had no prob.
