Paint is my #1 go to for updates. It's incredible how much difference it can make! A fresh lampshade can also go a long way to perking up an old lamp.

You could spray paint the lamp or buy a new lampshade.

Hi! I am a big fan of Home talk DIY, and I just did a quick facelift on my bedroom lamp! I just in the last year started thinking about what I really wanted from my space. We have a very small home, and like most during these uncertain times, not a lot of money to play with. I am a beginner and don't know a lot about crafting, but I also knew I was willing to try! I have done my bedroom with a bright color scheme of Mandela patterns, and even fashioned curtains from Kantha quilts from India that I purchased at a great price on Etsy! My old black iron lamp with the faux animal skin shade was VERY tired looking. I had thrown the idea around of getting on Amazon and finding bright colored lighting, but after several weeks of looking at y'all's post on revamping their existing lamps, I thought, WHAT the HECK! So here goes! First pic is the tired old base of the lamp. Second is the painter's tape and Krylon spray paint with primer I chose in a bright aqua or torquoise color. My duvet is full of this color and l wanted to bring it out! I wrapped the cord, switch and fixture so as not to get paint on them. I have read you can paint your cord, but that sometimes they stay tacky forever after. I didn't want that. I went out to the driveway and placed a piece of cardboard down and sprayed away! First coat was dry in about a half hour, and I did a second coat. I was pleasantly surprised that the second coat covered really well, and I didn't have any drip marks! I let it dry in the sun till dusk, and then sit over night! Next day, I removed the tape and popped on my new lampshade I purchased from Meijer for 15.00 and is another color that is prevalent in my Kantha quilt curtains and duvet cover! Here's my new lamp! All it cost me was about 6.00 in paint, and 15.00 for the shade, I already had the tape! What do y'all think for my first time!?
