The living space is small. I have a brown sofa, chair, tables and fireplace. I was told gray walls would add a modern feel. I know its just paint, and could easily... See more
Painting colors are very personal, however If it was my room I would eliminate some clutter to start.Select the largest wall and use a accent color to off set the brown and the balances of the walls a lighter version, then select a area rug for under the coffee table.
If you are not renting I would paint, declutter, get some of the stuff off the walls and do away with the small lamps. No more matchie, matchie, more eclectic and see if you can break up that sofa its too big for the room. Just a few of my ideas.

I'm sorry, you were asking more about rug colours. Although you can see the decor in the examples I gave you above, you may find something more like you want in this Google search.

Pale blue and brown go together well.
Maybe brighten up your drape choice.... http://www.brylanehome.com/decor/Triad-Faux-Silk-Grommet-Curtain.aspx?PfId=117231&DeptId=15286&ProductTypeId=1&ppos=31&Splt=0&StyleNo=1473
Modernize your lampshades by picking another shape. I did this recently in 2 rooms and it really makes a difference. If you go with blue accents, I would try to pick a blue shade.... http://www.lampsplus.com/products/s_blue-lamp-shades/
Maybe pickup the color accent by painting the base of your coffee table the blue, and leaving the top natural. A glass table would give it a modern look.
Pick up your accent color by selecting a rug with both the blue and brown... https://www.wayfair.com/rugs/sb1/blue-brown-tan-rugs-c474133-a1247~129800.html?rtype=9&redir=blue+and+brown+area+rugs
If that sofa has removable back cushions, make some large comfy back cushions in your accent color in a patterned fabric you could do an ikat, paisely, checked or plaid fabric.
When repainting your walls, select an eggshell or satin paint for a bit of reflectivity to make the room seem brighter.
If your going to keep the big corner plants, I would uplight them a bit.
What ever color you pick, I would do a light shade with some pop to it. Try hanging some paint samples on the wall and shades to see what speaks to you.
Hello Robyn; What I would suggest is this.
Please go to Ace Hardware, Home Depot, Etc.
Get as many paint chips that you like in any colors that make your Happy, and that you truly Love.
Play with the paint chips in sunlight as well as lamp lighting.
Decide what colors you like.
Please follow your instincts, as you will be living with the colors.
Personally, your room looks nice. All I would do is repaint, and tweak.
I always advise my Clients to focus and decide what they truly Love, be it Antiques, a piece of fabric, Art work.
Work from those choices. Example: You love some Antiques that are a red color. I would use the Antiques in the room, and would also tie the look together by purchasing pillows, or making them out of that color.
A rug that has browns in it would be nice, as well as new pillows. Paint, if you desire.
Shop your Home, as you might have treasures lurking that would look Fantastic in your new Living room!!!
I hope that this helps you!!! Enjoy your Home!!! Take Care!
I agree with everyone else -- I'd get rid of some of the pillows, get rid of extra stuff that you don't need in that room; once things get cleared up a bit, I might even suggest getting a bigger coffee table that's more in scale with your sectional. As for a rug, why not take a picture of the wall color and your sectional as you look at rugs so you can see if the colors all tie together. You'll see right away if it's workable, or not. Good luck and have fun with it!
Too much stuff in the area. Remove half of it and you'll be on the right track. Look at color chips and start from there.
I'd buy a good sized Middle Eastern rug with rich colours - blues, reds, etc. for under your coffee table to help anchor your room. If you're up to painting, I'd go light blue as someone else suggested. Looks like a warm, well-lived in, cozy room. Keep your clutter.
