Hi Judy, it looks like your question got cut off. Paneling can sure look just fine if its get painted a light color!

We have a log cabin and too much wood is dark and dreary.

We are quite pleased the previous homeowner placed paneling in two bedrooms and painted it a light color. I would suggest not to hesitare to paint paneling for a room brightening update.

Paneling looks great if you alternate flat and satin paint of the same color. Its subtle, but adds depth to the room.

To be safe its always best to do the proper prep for optimal results and a common suggestion is to wash with tsp. Be sure to review and follow all the personal protection instuctions on the TSP label before use.

Some folks fill the ridges, ours are left untouched.

I just tore all mine out because I was looking to do a larger, lasting renovation, but I have done several other things in the past that worked really well. one way to get a great look is to fill in the grooves with spakle or drywall mud. It’s sort of tedious, but if your not in a hurry, it’s not too bad. After I filled in the groves I painted the walls. Another time I just slapped on drywall mud and used a dry wall applicator to finish the walls oflowers so the had the appearance of Venetian plaster. I then painted with several shades of paint so the walls had a nife variegated finish. The last method I’ve used was to fill in the grooves, paint and then drag a large paint comb from the top to bottom of the wall. The walls looked really cool like textured grass wall paper.
