Hello Cecella, Try hanging 2, rods, one up high, and one lower. Put pants on the top pole, then leave enough room to hang things on the bottom rack. You can buy a shoe rack that holds about 16 pairs of shoes or put your small purses in the slots. I hope you understand this.
use stackable crates that is flexible vertically or horizontally in adjusting to your available space
Put bed on risers and use under bed for storage bins.
How tall are your ceilings? For extra storage space in a small apartment think 'outside of the closet' and look up to use your wall over the door areas.
I think a trundle bed is a brilliant way of putting good use to otherwise wasted space. Some come with smaller drawers, which could double as a dresser drawers, some with a larger drawer which could store an extra mattress for occasional overnight guests, or bulkier seasonal clothes or bedding. The trundle couch doubles as living room furniture and a guest bed.
You could get lots of bins from a storage store (or big lots) and use these on the top rack of your closet. You could even install a second top rack for more space.
