    Sometimes. I would also ask a local plumbing company that does new homes.

    Get at least 3 bids, and by all means a landscape pro would be best.

    I would suggest getting familiar with the topic by doing some research first. Online research, of course, but also check to see if your library has some garden/landscape books about grading, drainage, swales, rain gardens, etc. That way, you'll have some knowledge when you get bids from landscapers.

    Landscapers do this. I’d choose someone who’s a real pro, not a guy who just does weekly grounds maintenance. DIY?! Sure, if you’ve got a really strong back and the ability to haul in stone and topsoil. I had a French drain put in...approximately 100 feet in total. Six laborers, 3 days.
