Is rubber mulch ok for large areas on a slope?

Sure, just know it will make the area hotter than if using a natural material mulch. -

Rubber mulch also has a strong smell that only disappears after about 4 years since it's usually made from old tires. Heat makes it smell stronger. A friend of mine claimed it sterilized her soil and nothing would grow in or around it. It gives me and others a bad headache, so don't use it near your house. Personally I don't think it's worth it, and on a hillside it might end up all at the bottom after a few seasons. -

Have you thought about lava rock,it keeps weeds away too.They sell it at garden centers. -

what ever mulch you put down on a slope will wash away unless you have a retaining wall or a tall edging -
