Get a couple of trusted friends with shovels, trowels, heavy duty lobbers and ) (maybe) a small chain saw. Start at the soil line and start digging out and down, severing and removing as you go. It's not easy, but very rewarding !!! Pizza and beer after the job is done. Good luck
We had a huge tree removed years ago that was in our lawn. The lawn guy used a stump grinder to grind the stump down to yard level.
