Want to know the source to purchase garden path stones that look like

one of the pictures on web was of an Old Woman's Garden path with fabulous garden stones. Where can we buy these?

You can purchase from your local landscape supply store, independent or chain store. The small rock can be purchased in bags, the larger is usually by the pallet or sold by weight. You can ask for river slicks, or egg rock or pond pebbles. It is best that you take a look at what is available first. I would try to stick with stones that are locally mined to control cost. People ask me for lava rock all the time here (near Atlanta) which I don't stock because of the wasted money on freight charges to get it here from the southwest.

Those paths are laid in a bed of cement and tamped down to make them level. This type of path requires a LOT of strong sturdy hands all working together as you have a limited amount of time in which to place down the patterns, tamp down and finish. If you live in an area where there is a lot of freeze thaw cycles although not suggested, you will need to seal the top with a clear epoxy coating to seal out any moisture that would get between the stones and the cement base. Be sure you have the pattern already figured out long before you start as you cannot begin to think how it will look once the cement has been poured.

Landscape stores are more expensive, when I got mine for my patio I purchased it from a trucking farm that trucked in crushed gravel and stuff. They also charged by the pound however it was only 15 cents a pound which is a whole lot cheaper than the landscapers.

I have a farm with lots of rocks. I live in an area that freezes and thaws as well. all I did was collect flats rocks and purchased pavers from Lowes. then I bought special sand , paving sand at lowes and filled in the cracks. no problems and works well.

What a labor of love. Clearly the woman enjoyed making beautiful patterns from these stones. I'm guessing she wasn't old when she did it! 
If I were going to do this at my age, I would probably make the circle pattern of stones in a mold so I could cement them or grout them in place then move them into the pathway ready made.

I understand that the time frame of setting cement is a factor. What about doing a more managable section at a time? Spread cement, place rocks, tap...repeat?

that is my plan mrsn....I am going to do an 8x8 area..I will cut it into 2x2 sections and work with those smaller sections at the time.....I will probably start this fall or maybe before if I can't wait lol..

I was told by some concrete specialist to do 12X12 or 14 x 14 blocks.Ii am old and wanted to do something like this for yrs. They told me to make
 2x4 's in a square and put ply wood on the bottom then use kerosene like a coat of grease to grease it up. Put in your rocks shells or pretty stones in what ever shape you want and then pour in the concrete and let dry. Tap your square out and then do it again :)

can the rocks u get off beach be used to creat walk way.  like the sand one brown ones or would they ahve to be treated.?

Nore, the rocks (sand stone) can be used. One way to use them is to mix your own mix of cement using the smooth sand stone rocks instead of the normal gravel used. Just prior to setting a hose is used with a fine spray to remove the cement top layer exposing the stones and pebbles in the mix. This results in a stone style finish. Just another spin on how to do something a bit different.

I am thinking you put the large pieces in first then do the one circular at one time. I have some large flagstones that have considered doing this in between since all that is there is decomposed granite at the time.
