What plants can I put in my garden that would not need your attention?

You cant beat succulents. I always kill my plants but the succulent alway survive and even multiply.

What kind of light does the garden have? That will make a difference as to the suggestions you will get from us. If it is mostly shady, hostas are entirely care free once they are established and won't need as much watering, also care free until you cut the dead leaves in the late fall or spring. I also like tuberous begonias because they are bright, and don't need to be dead headed. They aren't perennial except down south or if you take them for the winter.

I think Stella De Oro day lilies are great. They bloom all summer and need next to no care!

Bear in mind that when a plant is described as needing "little or no attention" that usually isn't a literal description. If there is a drought, check your plants, they probably need watering. They can be overrun by invasive plants and eventually get choked out. If you truly want a garden that needs absolutely no attention, put down gravel and succulents and cactus, if they are appropriate for your area.

If you are talking about a vegetable garden, I don't know of any vegetable or fruit bearing plant that doesn't require some attention.

I suggest you check in at a local nursery so you can describe your environment. Plants have varying requirements that can make them more or less dependent on your attention. In shade, my hostas ask for nothing-but I have to thin them every few years because they are so happy and grow so thick! Same with ferns. In a sunny spot, daisies bloom and reappear every year with no help from me. I have a large herb box in a sunny spot and I basically just harvest herbs all summer. But if I didn't harvest, they would overrun themselves, which isn't healthy or attractive.
