What to do in my yard instead of a garden?

Make a "VALLEY OF THE FAIRIES." These are very popular and lots of fun. Make it as big or small as you want and keep adding to it and watch it grow. Very addicting and eye catching.
How about a fountain with a rock garden? How about a large piece of garden art as a focal point. How about a fire pit or bbq with benches all around. Here is a link, see if you find anything cool to incorporate into your space.

Since it's dirt to begin with, you could put some pavers down and put a fire pit on them. That would be so nice especially at night sitting around a fire.
How about some passive, benign gardening? You already have the dirt, just sprinkle a package of wildflower seeds on top. If you have a rake, go over the surface a couple of times. Don’t water or fertilize the area. Just wait to see what flowers come up. You could set a rain-fed birdbath in the center, or a plaster statue.
Or, if you have dogs, let them go crazy. They will keep the ground dug up and scattered out, so eventually grass and weeds will get rooted in the dirt area, and you will have more years. Good luck. ☺️
Without seeing a photo, it is hard to answer this, but I will try.
1. How about a bed of mulch. Edge out a definite pattern...it does to have to be round or square...it can be any shape, any size. Cut in a small trench so you can keep a good edge. Fill the area with mulch (there are colors of natural, red, black) and place a few large rocks in place and a few pots with plants...easy to keep watered. A variety of pot sizes adds character (arrange items in odd numbers, 1-3-5-7) . Then you can put in a gazing globe or some sort of ornament or statue. If it is in a private place in back, go wild if you wish.
2. You can make the same shape above, but add p-gravel and put in a firepit which is not difficult to construct. You can dig down a few inches and add some brick or stones above ground. Add a couple of chairs and a cool beer for a relaxing star gazing night!
