Can you cover rocks with mulch in landscape/flower beds?

We have white rocks, put in by the previous owner of our home, in our front beds. Now weeds are growing up through the liner and it's a never-ending battle to keep the beds looking good. I want something else, like mulch, but I don't know how to go about changing and we can't afford to pay someone to do it icon Any ideas?

I just covered my rocks with extra mulch. You will have to keep adding it as the mulch wears away.

Post on local sites that you are giving away free rocks but that whomever is interested has to do the removal. most people want free stuff even if it requires a bit of work. Once the rocks are gone, mulch away!

  • We had the same problem in one of our houses (we're military). We ended up removing all the rocks and taking them to the recycling center. It was an arduous task as whoever put them in just kept adding more rocks as the old ones got covered with dirt. We ended up excavating down at least a foot or more. After the largest rocks were gone (you'll never get them all, but they add drainage so it's ok) we added garden soil from the home center, then landscape fabric and mulch. It was a ton of work, but I ended up with the biggest, tallest impatients ive ever had! It was so worth it! (I'll see if I can find the photos)

    Good luck😉and post pictures!
