using vinegar will kill other plants...same as boiling water, your best bet is to dig it or smother it
Get a shovel
BOILING WATER!!!! Cut your thistle down and pour boiling water directly on the stump. You wants the roots hit with the water so breaking the ground around the stumps is helpful.

The "thistle" seed sold to feed birds is actually niger. By law, it has to be sterilized before it is imported. Bird seed isn't causing your thistle problem. What you have is probably Russian thistle which spreads rapidly if it is allowed to bloom. I have nothing to add regarding how to get rid of it except to do it while it is immature. If you let it flower, your problem will be endless.
