Chances are good that your rhododendrons will recover. Make sure that they are not further stressed by abnormally dry conditions; provide them supplemental water during dry spells. Make sure there’s one to three inches of mulch around them, which will help keep moisture in the soil.
The most effective deer deterrent is a fence—but it must be at least 8 feet tall, or else the deer will jump right over. Alternatively, you could try draping deer netting over your rhododendrons next fall. Remove it in spring before the shrubs begin to bloom.
For future help in keeping deer away, collect human hair cuttings (from a hair salon) and place in used panty hose. Hang near garden. Deer are afraid of human scent.
humorously speaking if I may, who are you trying to help, the deer or the rhododendrons? Seriously speaking there are products on the market at most nurseries, but the human hair sounds like a good try to me.The deer here are very unafraid of humans and pretty much stand their ground.
Pour urine around them or/and sprinkle cayenne pepper on leaves where they are eating
