Patty, a chain saw will get you started. There are lady sized electric chain saws available. Look for these in your big box wharehouse stores. These smaller chainsaws are easier for women to use. Of course if you can use a Paul Bunyon size then get at it. Cut away using a slicing method across the top of the stump. Remove as much of the tree to the root as possible. Next get an old tin trash can, cut out the bottom so the can will fit over the left over stump. Squirt bbq starter all over the stump, toss a match in, and cover can with your bbq pit grate. Let it burn until the stump is ash. Put the ashes in your garden. Now you are half Texan!!

What we have done was cut it with a hand saw or chainsaw to as low as we could go. Then take a really fat drill bit and drill holes in the stump.

Purchase stump remover chemicals at your local hardware store and pour it down the holes. It takes time to rot it out, but it works!

This is a Job for: Stump Out.

Stump Out is an explosive, like a low grade dynamite.

What you do to prep for this is same as with any chemical solution: drill out some of the stump with a Regular 2 inch Drill Bit.

Once you finish that, Read the Directions on the bag of stump out for usage instructions.

It will make a bang so keep any children you may have inside until after the bang.

Small stump- dig it out with a mattock.

I would suggest renting a stump grinder if its a sizable stump. We unsuccessfully tried burning drilling and stump out and ended up hiring out the job.
