How do I keep flies from landing on my vinyl siding?

For the 3rd consecutive year, I have had flies covering my home's vinyl siding & wood deck. I've tried spraying the siding with Clorox with no effect. I don't particularly want to kill the flies, just keep the flies away and from landing. Any suggestions?

For some reason flies hate Vodka. They just cannot bear its smell and hence some people use vodka based repellents to ward off flies.

To make such vodka based fly repellents you will have to mix following ingredients:

    • 1 cup vodka
    • 2 tsp aloe vera juice
    • 1 tsp lemon eucalyptus oil
    • 1/2 tsp. essential oil blend

After mixing the ingredients, pour them in a spray bottle. Spray on your siding to keep those annoying critters away!

Let us know if it works. If it doesn't work, maybe the siding needs to be pressure washed as there may be something on it that is coming from nearby trees or flowers.

Instead of wasting money on Liquor set up fly traps around your deck etc. They also make fly paper.Use the electonic bug zappers.

Take some sample flies to a local pest control company where they will identify the fly for free. Once you know what it is, then you can form a plan to get rid of them. I suspect they are not house flies at all....maybe stone flies that are hatching off water, or termite swarmers or boxelder bugs. All have different treatments. No treatment for stone flies. Good luck.

I have box elder bugs & purchased Harri Asian Lady bug & Box elder spray. It worked but now the eggs are hatching & the little devils are all in the mulch! I am spraying the mulch but will also use a concoction of Dawn & water. They hate Dawn blue original!

Thank you for all the suggestions. The flies are gone now; they only last for about 3 weeks. Don't know where they come from or where they go. I guess I'll see them again next April.
