Hi Teresa. I greased mine poles with Crisco. It worked at first but did come off and then they got to the food again. I have also used a 2 litter bottle and cut it so I could put it around the pole. I used a zip to keep it from sliding down. That worked well.

Slip the feeder onto a long wire and hang it between two trees, but away from any low branches. Also, string empty thread spools on the wire to act as a further deterrent.

If your bird feeder sits on a pole and you're pestered by squirrels stealing the seeds, go to the pet store and buy a squirrel baffle.

I had the same problem with squirrels climbing the pool to the feeder. I also greased the pole and watched them slide down. I thought I had the problem fixed, BUT squirrels are smart, and went up and down that pole until the grease was gone. There they were back in the feeders again. I finally bought a squirrel baffle or guard, and if you hang it high enough, the squirrels can`t climb over it. Problem solved....until the Sand Cranes come to the feeders. They just stand right next to them and eat! I am glad they don`t visit often. Lol. Sharing is caring! Good luck!

Put a coat of Vaseline on them. The squirrels will slide off and not come back.

Coat the seed with hot pepper sauce. It doesn't bother birds but repels squirrels.
