The best way is to stay on top of pulling them. You can start by using weed killer. Then mulch. If any come back dig them out especially before they go to seed. -

I know salt will kill just about anything if applied liberally enough so it depends on the location of the weeds. You won't want to use salt (or much of anything) in a vegetable garden etc. -
