Store clerk shared sprinkling plants with baby powder, haven't tried it. Spritzing with a vinegar and peppermint oil mixture, sprinkling cayenne pepper around plants, stuffing old hoses/knee highs with human hair and edging borders, pouring human urine around border edge or sending sons/grandsons/husband? outside. Some people recommending getting a dog, also electric fences but must be 6 feet high. Underground fences do not work. (It's hard to catch those deers to put collars on them.)

Having a dog doesn't deter them. I tried dropping shavings of Irish Spring soap bars along the property line, but I think something came and ate them.

Deterring deer is a very bid challenge. You can try making homemade sprays with hot pepper flakes and garlic, basically anything that taste hot or sour, however it will be a trial an error process.

Squirrels were making nests in my patio/carport ceiling, dogs didn't scare them. I tried the Irish Spring bars and the squirrels have not returned. I couldn't believe it but, it worked. It is not expensive.

We plant marigolds around the garden and haven't had a problem and we live in the country with heavy deer population.
